The general information on Qiding Longtan Temple

Posted by ugfanfan on February 27th, 2015

Longtan Temple was built in the first year of Qianlong, Qing Dynasty and Master Yanzhi was the first one who ran the temple. Now it is 250 years old.

The natural environment around Longtan Temple is very unique, the mountain where the temple located is the part of Hada Ling which is the branch of Mountain Changbai, and has seven peaks (Guiyue, Lingxiao, Foyun, Diecui, Guanlan, Lianhua and Yiquan) that surround the temple so that the only entry to the temple is in the east side of the mountain. Longtan Temple lies among the seven peaks, and there are two ponds in front of it. One is in the east and the other in the west. Lotus grows in one and water chestnut in the other. If lotus and water chestnut are changed to the opposite pond, neither will survive. Water in both ponds never dries all the year. In the local folk story, both are called Longtan because two dragons are hidden in both to maintain the water.
