The dictionary meaning of geology is the science that deals with the physical structure and substances of earth, their history, and the processes which act on them. Geologists study different important factors of the earth like energy, water, mineral resources, etc. geology also includes the study of different factors of the environment like floods, landslides, climate change, volcanoes, and earthquakes. Briefly stating, geology is the study of the earth, the substances that make the earth, the structure of those substances, and the processes taking place on these substances. Geology also studies the organisms that have walked the surface of the earth since its creation.

There are two main types of geology:

  1. That deals with the features and phenomena related to the earth. For example, natural calamities like floods and earthquakes, features of the earth like mineral resources, flora and fauna, etc.
  2. Historical geology, this kind deals with the history of the earth. Historical geologists’ study what has happened on the earth and its features and elements after it was created.

FOLLOWING ARE REASONS THAT WILL CONVINCE YOU TO GET A GEOLOGY TEXTBOOK

  • Geology deeply studies the flora and fauna of the earth. Having only the basic geology textbook can teach you a lot about the animals and plants that exist on the earth.
  • Many times, we have no idea what happens during a natural calamity. Geology briefly informs you about floods, earthquakes, landslides, tornadoes, and other calamities.
  • Geology also studies the aftereffects and symptoms of a calamity.
  • Geology will also coach you on what to do and what not to do in case you face a natural calamity
  • There are three main branches of philosophy
  1. Physical geology: studies the physical elements like the landscape and processes that change the earth
  2. Historical geology: studies the history of physical landscapes and physical changes that have taken place since the formation of the earth.
  3. Environmental geology: this is a comparatively newer branch than physical and historical geology. It studies the relation and interaction between humans and the geological environment.
  • You can study any one of the above three branches, or you can study all three. All three branches hold significant and important information that can be very useful.
  • There have been many problems in recent years on earth. These problems have been caused due to humans. Main goal of geology is to find a solution to these problems caused by the interaction between humans and geological components.
  • Safeguarding the earth is our responsibility. We live on the earth with several other living beings, and our kind has been the one exploiting the giving nature of our earth. It is way past “high time” to look for a solution and bring it into immediate action.
  • Geology includes years and years of research. This research will be of vital importance when looking for solutions to save the earth.

You can find interesting content about geology in research papers written by Zonia Baber, Mary Horner Lyell, Marjorie Sweeting, etc. geology is a very interesting subject and also the need of the hour. You can also go through other materials like architecture books for students and more.
