Things to Consider While Using a Knife for Self Defense

A lot of times, one often gets into situations and circumstances where they are blocked out from a position where they can ask for help. In such situations, it is only ideal that they have the knowledge of at least the basic techniques of self-defense and also carry along a weapon for self-defense. Now, ideally, people do tend to carry revolvers and pistols. However, these weapons not only help in self-defense but also cause a lot of harm as well. Hence, it is only suitable that we are armed with a suitable knife (a foldable pocket knife or a fixed knife) such as a Frank Beltrame or an extra sharp smith and Wesson knife.

Along with the possession of a self-defense knife, however, one also needs to have appropriate knowledge about defense tactics and positions that are suitable and fit for them to provide a strong and effective defense. Once you have a thorough knowledge of the type of weapon, only then decide if you wish to buy an online smith & Wesson knife set or some other sort of pocket/ fixed knife.

To be able to learn even the basics of a self-defense technique, one needs to first understand the difference between a foldable and fixed knife. While the basic difference is quite evident from the name itself, there are a lot of other differences that one needs to know of. Some of these are, of course, the legality of a certain knife in the area of jurisdiction, the blade type, sharpness, tactical and functional features, etc. Sometimes it so happens that the legality of using a certain kind of knife changes within a few kilometers itself. This means that while you might be able to legally use an extra sharp smith and Wesson knife at one location, the same might not be a legal option within a different locality of the same region.

Once this jurisdictional question is answered and you are sure about the kind of knife that’s allowed in your area, it is now time to learn the different knife grips as well. Now, there are essentially two kinds of knife grips- the forward grip and the reverse grip. While the forward grip works with the tip-side up, the reverse grip has a tip-down tactic of self-defense. Simultaneously, you also need to learn about the different ranges of a knife defense before you decide to buy an online smith & Wesson knife set, a foldable knife set, or a fixed knife.

Apart from these, always remember to train for self-defense tactics along with a suitable partner, preferably someone who already has sufficient knowledge about the area, or is trained in the same.
