More and more homeowners are deciding to convert their lofts into extra living space these days – and it’s no surprise when you look at the benefits for doing so.

With more of us deciding to/being forced into working from home nowadays, those extra few square metres within the house can have huge value in the moment. They can also add a healthy profit from their investment onto the house’s sale price, if done correctly.

But as much as we all want a loft conversion to ourselves – a fancy bedroom, a little hideaway, a home office – making somewhere for the kids is as equal a great idea and can reap huge benefits.

One of the most popular play uses for a loft conversion is as a home for your toy trains.

Since the rise of Hornby, model railways have been a huge part of British culture – and, for many of us, were a big part of our childhoods. The idea of building a mini-world in our sheds and bringing it to life with electric toy trains was always exciting.

With the extra space granted by a loft conversion, many will opt to use it to create their own mega-sized mini railway with their kids. Fun, right? Model railways can be a lot of fun – but they can also be incredibly educational. Many can now be operated by a computer, helping teach your kids vital IT skills whilst they play.

They also provide a great opportunity for parent-child time together. Perhaps one for the older kids, and perhaps one that’s slightly more expensive – but this can be fun project for the whole family to get involved in.

Chalk walls are a great way of easily turning part of your loft conversion into an artistic haven or kids.

They can draw and write on the walls to their hearts’ content, great for them in an educational sense – whilst also giving you some peace and quiet to get on with something else elsewhere.

Home cinemas are becoming all the more popular right now and, thanks to that, are becoming ever more affordable and inexpensive.

The most economical way in which to achieve this is through a projector lined up against a clear white wall. These can retail from anywhere above £60 – what you pay does, of course, tend to dictate the quality of the video. For big film buffs, it may be worth the extra investment to get something of a higher quality – but basic ones still do the job fantastically.

If you want to take it further up a notch, throw in proper cinema screen to use. These will set you back typically around £100 and can be folded away and stored when not being used.

Throw in a couple of beanbags and some snacks, and you could have the ultimate weekend hideaway spot in your own home.

Video Games Room
Linking on from the home cinema idea, a loft conversion also presents the opportunity to create an epic gaming setup for your kids – or, maybe, even yourself!

Get in a proper gaming chair, surround sound audio, a large screen television, and all the latest games, and your conversion will be the envy of the street among fellow gamers.

These setups can be expensive – but they can be well worth the investment. The only issue can sometimes be getting a quality wi-fi signal up in the loft: this can normally be done either via socket extenders, or traditional wi-fi boosters being placed a floor above the router.
