Portability is the thing everyone looks for when shopping for home appliances. This is often attributed to be the factor responsible for the increasing popularity mini freezers enjoy at present. When combined with the flexibility market offers in the field, these are now the all-time favorites of consumers. They help you to get fresh food whenever you want from wherever you are, even when enjoying a ride. But, to ensure that your choice model stays with you for long, you need to maintain them properly.

Maintaining 12V freezers

Taking care of a walk-in freezer is not that difficult. Just remember the points given below.

     1.       Keep the door closed

Keep the door of the unit closed as much as possible. Keeping it open for an extended period of time as you know will lead to loss of cold air. This will force the unit to work hard to restore its normal temperature. If yours is a car freezer, this will strain the life of its battery.

     2.       Clean the condensers

Make it a point that you clean the condensers at least once in six months. You need to do it as often as possible if they are located outside the unit. Just wiping out the dust and debris using a towel would do. Don’t ignore the evaporators.

     3.       Be careful with the temperature settings

Know that freezers are designed to maintain a temperature of 0 degrees or lower. Refer to your product documentation and regulate it accordingly. If your favorite food item gets frozen at this temperature, place it on the door.

     4.       Don’t leave it empty

Take all measures to ensure that your freezer is full all the time. If you don’t have enough food items to fill, place the unused plastic containers lying around in your home in the unit. However, don’t overload; it will block the circulation of air. Free flow of air is a must to maintain uniform temperature inside the unit. You should also refrain from stacking boxes near the door. Doing this will affect the temperature sensors; you may get a false reading.

     5.       Defrost it at times

This is an oft-repeated advice. Still, people often ignore this. Understand that even auto defrost feature may fail to protect your freezer from ice buildup. Defrost it manually as often as you can. A failure here may lead to unwanted odors and other troubles.

     6.       Don’t ignore the technician

Service the device once a year. Let the service person check the electric connections and the drains. All the wires should be tight and secure for a freezer to work effectively. And, don’t forget to replace the gaskets when required. A regular inspection will inform you if they are in good condition. If that is the case, cleaning them using soapy water would help your freezer work as new.

Remember, when air leaks, the unit works overtime. This will shorten its lifespan. Look after 12V freezers. They would ensure fresh meals whenever you want. These tips will even help your wallet; you will protect the unit from an unexpected meltdown.
