Yaofang Cavern (or Healthcare Prescribed Cave) includes two compartments. On the main walls of the back area rests a Buddha joined by two followers and two bodhisattvas. The cave got its name due to the 140 medical medications of Tang Empire etched on both ends of the entry.

Among these medications, 65 can be identified clearly, 42 partially broken, and 33 seriously broken. They are said to cure 40 illnesses protecting inner medication, surgery treatment, neurology, gynecology, pediatric medicine and five sense body parts. For example, prescription for malaria: smash goldthread into powdered, hold it with three fingertips and take with grain wine before the signs come on. Try and analyze. Prescribed for tumefaction: prepare broth of willow results in and clean the impacted aspect with it and then apply floor leek to the aspect. Try and analyze. Besides, there are medications for cholera, diarrhoea, anxiety and jampacked.

Of the medications are 21 hook treatments and types of medication include powdered, tablet, insert, broth and exterior program. There are as many as 173 medications documented, such as creatures, vegetation, nutrients and such everyday condiments as marinade, oil and therapy.

We can learn from these etched medications that historical China suppliers had obtained a advanced level in medical technology. Since the components in them are common and easy to gather, these medications are appropriate for medical treatment and popularization.

After the Tenth millennium, the medications were distribute to Asia. In a Japanese people guide Healthcare Prescriptions (edited in AD 984) documented the etched medications in Yaofang Cavern of Longmen Grottoes, which are called “Longmen Prescriptions” in the guide. This reveals the extensive of China historical medical techniques and the great impact of the etched medications in Longmen Grottoes.
