Pliers and tweezers, two important precision tools

Posted by SharonEvans on March 18th, 2015

Manufacturing precision tools needs expert precision engineers to be able to get the specifications right. There are strict quality control measures which are required to be adhered to. Precision hand tools like pliers and tweezers find specialized usages in industries like electronics, medical and watchmaking. Handling small machine parts is extremely difficult without the right precision tools and the accuracy and quality of the tools makes all the difference when it comes to deciding which manufacturer would be able to suffice your job’s requirement. At first you need to check if they are meeting the quality standard specifications set by the industry and only then can you take the next step towards sealing the deal. However, it is important to understand what purpose these tools serve. We will take a look at this in the following paragraphs.

Pliers

These precision tools are used to hold objects with a firmness which will not be possible with other tools. They can also bend and compress objects if required. The head section, which has the cutting or gripping jaws, serves the purpose with the help of the handles and pivot. To avoid the pliers from being corroded, mostly steel alloys are used to make them. The handles are given grips made of shock-proof materials.

Those pliers that are especially made for electrical purposes are fitted with blades that have the capacity of cutting wires. For making watches, jewelry and other such sensitive pieces, the jaws are fitted with brass, aluminum or plastic. These are often available in three varieties namely, stainless steel, dura-nadium and extracting. There are a number of subcategories in this as well.

Tweezers

These tools are used for picking up extremely small objects which cannot be picked up with fingers. They are mainly used for handling small mechanical and electronic parts which are used for precision engineering. They find extensive usage in microscopic sciences as well as for jewelry and watch making. Tweezers are available in a variety of sizes. There are differences in the shapes of the tips as well.

The different types of tweezers that are available include steel, wafer handling, plastic, brass, component handling, cutting, SMD lines etc. According to the industry and usage requirement this precision tool is put to use. If you are looking for quality in this tool then you need to go for the fused variety and not the bent one as the fused one, which has a comparatively expensive manufacturing process, gives a stronger grip on objects and hence is the more preferred of the two.

Manufacturing precision tools like tweezers and pliers follows the basic principle that machine movements can be determined and measured to the minutest possible motion. And, hence, the tools are so produced that they are able to serve different purposes and are able to create highly precise movements. Precision engineering is an extremely specialized field and the tools made are based on the cause and effect relationships. Customers looking for precision tools for their applications should keep the purposes and usages of tools in mind so that they are able to place order accordingly. Price is not the factor when it comes to quality; what needs to be checked, however, is the standard of the tools which are manufactured.

The pliers and tweezers are two different kinds of precision tools.
