Addressing the Symptoms of Cataracts

Posted by fortworth on March 21st, 2015

The formation of cataracts is a relatively common problem for people as they age. What once used to be a death sentence for vision is no longer, courtesy of advanced surgical procedures that can quickly and effectively remove the trouble while restoring better vision in the process.

The symptoms of cataracts are fairly unmistakable and though more common in later years, they can arise in young people, as well.

The Signs to Watch Out For

In the initial stages of cataract formation, the visible symptoms might not be present. There are, however, some signs that may signal the formation of this cloudy haze on an eye lens. They include:

  • Blurred, dim or cloudy vision
  • Increasing issues with night vision
  • Sensitivity to glare and light
  • The appearance of “halos” around light sources
  • Frequent need to change corrective lens prescriptions
  • Fading or yellowing of colors
  • Having double vision in a single eye

Addressing the Problem

While only a qualified eye surgeon can determine if and when cataract surgery is called for, patients today will find major advancements have taken place in the procedure. Courtesy of these advancements, cataract surgery typically only takes about 20 minutes to perform on an outpatient basis. Rather than have to stay in a hospital, patients today go home and generally are able to see much better within a day or two courtesy of advanced lens implants that might replace their prescriptive lenses.

Cataracts can wreak havoc with vision, but they are perfectly treatable in today’s advanced medical world. Should problems with vision arise and cataracts be the suspected culprit, be sure to consult with a trusted eye doctor for the best advice. Going in for routine eye exams can also help ensure that cataract formation is detected as early as possible so limited disruption to daily life is the only result.
