How To Start Making Money Doing What You Love

You see the dancers on TV dancing behind Britney or Justin Timberlake. You're inspired to take up dancing so that you can become just like your idols. And you find that pretty soon, you wouldn't mind being up there yourself dancing with your very idols.

West Indians would tune up to anything to make a rhythm. Consider steel pan, that evolved in 1930s. The music played on it was incredible yet it was created out of the discarded 50 gallon drums of the Trinidadian oil industry. Steel pan is also an ideal instrument for providing the music for the weddings. Calypso is another inspiring style of music with great rhythms. During Carnivals, Caribbean music, particularly in Calypso, is sometimes about protest and social community but yet it is about dancing. West Indians leave their jobs to get back for carnival.

Back to my 150 candidates from this past month - NOT ONE called to follow up to see if I had received the resume! This not only mystified me but also annoyed me to no end.

The next year Bob Marley, Bunny and other friends, created the Wailing Wailers. After a few recording sessions, two members decided to quit from the band. The band moved on and was introduced to Clemt Dodd. He used to be a local producer album covers at Coxsone Company. The wailers recorded their first song with Clemt Dodd known as "Simmer Down", which became popular in Jamaica. The company gave the band several talented Ska music jobs, to help in recording most of their songs. During that time, the Wailing Wailers were comprised of three members Peter Tosh, Bunny and Bob Marley. They became popular locally. The Wailing Wailers recorded more songs with the record label and Bob became the leader and songwriter of the group.

A lot of work I do is with the tribute bands, the working bands and function work along with original work and recording! Word of mouth works well. You do a gig or work for one band and if you do a good job, you get recommended and the networking works well this way! It has worked well for me and is part of the music business.

While this is less obvious in other areas of the music industry, the same thing pretty much goes on. If you don't make music people want to hear, you won't go very far. You can enjoy the music you make all you want, but if no one else does, you won't make any sales.

One of the best ways to find a job as a musician is by contacting fellow musicians. Some of them may be looking for others to form a band or have been asked for recommendations. An aspiring musician should be pleasant and willing to work with others. Other musicians will want to work with you or recommend you to others, only if they like you. Maintaining good friendships with those in the industry is essential.
