Getting admission to one of the top colleges in the country is no mean feat. Unfortunately, most of the students are not capable of cracking the required test to earn a scholarship. Being able to afford higher education can be enormously expensive as well. One of the best alternatives for gaining admission into the chosen institution would be to enter the campus and sporting arena as a student-athlete. This comes with the promise of financial aid as well. Life is not always easy for the said athlete, though. The young student has to walk on the tight rope, balancing academics and representing the college on the sports field.

One would have to check the facts meticulously, especially the NCAA rules, before signing on the dotted line agreeing to enter into a contract with the “National Collegiate Athletics Association” that is entrusted with the responsibility of governing all university-level sports.

The list of regulations to note and comply with is enormous. Unfortunately, many of the students complain of bias, with some being refused financial aid the following year. While the terms & conditions of the NCAA are sacrosanct, it makes sense to hire an experienced NCAA lawyer to address the legal issues related to the contract and misbehavior by the concerned school or school authorities.

Being represented by a legal professional can go a long way in securing a student athlete's future and help the individual attain peace of mind, especially when the student's eligibility has been established with the financial aid being granted as a promise.

Some of the other areas that necessitate intervention by a legal professional for student representation include:-

· NCAA Investigations - The NCAA authorities are committed to investigating facts and revealing the findings as accurately as possible without any distortion of facts. The violations of regulations reported against a student-athlete may be argued by a competent lawyer who represents the student and is determined to provide justice to the client.

· Reduction of Scholarship Amount- Student-athletes on full scholarship is dismayed to learn that the financial aid has been reduced significantly. A legal representative can go through the contract with NCAA and note the areas where such an eventuality is explained in detail. Arguing to keep the amount unaltered requires particular expertise and experience, making it indispensable for the student to hire a lawyer.

· Transfer Regulations - The NCAA offers each student-athlete the provision of a one-time transfer for students who attend a full-time course. They do not have to sit out for an entire season on transferring colleges. Diverse rules of transfers apply to student-athletes depending on the specific Division. A lawyer would be able to plead for an exception or file for a waiver if the student cannot comply with NCAA rules.

The legal representative is also adept at pursuing various NCAA sports litigation types, including drug abuse cases and disputed eligibility.
