Roll Compactor ? Everything You Need To Know About It

Roll compactor is designed for densification of compaction of powder for pharmaceutical and bulk drug industries, in general, for food and chemical industries.

Introduction

What is Granulation? Granulation is a process in which particles in powder from being manually or automatically made to adhere to each other, which results in large from giving multi-particle entities, which are so called as Granules.

The above process of formation of granules is called Granulation. And of liquid is not added in the above process then the process is said to be Dry Granulation process.

When the powder blend is compacted in dry granulation process by applying force on powder, it causes an enlargement in its size. The obtained Compactors are called as briquettes or ribbons or even flakes.

After the compaction process to obtain desired granules miming step is followed.

Principle

Roll Compactor machine is designed to produce granules of equal quality by providing uniform force and to give fine granules uniform quality.

Features

• Improves product quality.

• Reduces process cost.

• It improves bulk density.

As the name itself defines, Roll Compactor has very compact design. The body of the machine is available in plain, Fireproof or Water Jacketed.

Working And Construction Of The Machine

Roll Compactor consist of Twin shaft gearbox with speed drive unit which is used to drive the rolls. The twin shaft coupling helps in steady torque loading. The pre densifier screw is polished and may be cylindrical or conical shape. The sleeves of compacting rolls are made out of tool steel hardened to 55 HRC. The sleeves are keyed into shafts with thrust plates and bolts to avoid slipping. The operation of the feed screw involves a hydraulic system which can be operated by hand.

The pre compression chamber is designed in such a way that the powder can be guided without any slippage or leakage.

A separate panel of controls is permanently built in with an emergency stop. The emergency stop is provided to avoid any type of hazard like short circuits or fire at the time of cleaning with water.

Advantages Of The Machine

• The most important advantage of the machine is that it is rated for continuous operation and higher output.

• The contact parts while cleaning can be easily dismantled hence the process of changing the product becomes faster.

• The Machine is portable and can be run on castor wheels.

• The direction of the blades can also be reversed.

• Different sizes of the screen, speed and number of blades and its direction can be selected.

• Additional perforated screen at the bottom of the pulverizing chamber helps to control the grain size and fineness, hence increasing the efficiency.

Applications

Features and Applications define the machine, equally. Some of its advantages are:

• Increase in bulk density of powder and its particle size results in the better flowing.

• Dry granulation is used for improving the flow ability which is a pre requisite for manufacturing capsules and tablets on high speed production equipments.
