Dog Park Safety Tips

Many of our canine companions love heading to the dog park. There, they can run free and play with other dogs to their heart’s content. Just make sure your pet stays safe! Here are a few tips from your veterinarian Portland, OR.

Vaccinate your dog.

Before heading to the dog park, make sure your pet is vaccinated and is up to date on pest-control products to protect against fleas, ticks, and worms. In an area where Fido might be encountering a lot of other dogs, you’ll want to make sure he’s well-protected.

Train your dog.

Your dog should know and obey a reliable recall command, like “come.” You might have to call your dog back to you should they stray too far, or if another dog begins acting aggressively toward your pet, for example.

Bring a leash.

Even if you let Fido off-leash once you’re inside the dog park, it’s always a good idea to keep the leash on you. You just never know when you might need to clip it on and have that extra measure of control over your pet. Better safe than sorry!
