The Role Playing Game (RPG) genre from inception till date

The Role Playing Game (RPG) genre has come a long way since its inception with the early Dungeons and Dragons games of the 70s. The genre has been influenced by several literary and cultural works over the years that have made the games more intricate themed.

Among all the influences for modern games, Steampunk Fantasy RPG has had the deepest impact in the gaming world. From medieval times based games to games that are set in the distant future like Warhammer 40K, Steampunk has influenced every aspect of gaming, especially the character design and environment. This adaptation of Steampunk culture into electronic gaming has made games in general, more complex looking with textures that really give a really grunge feel to the game environment.

One of the noted award-winning Steampun k role  playing  game which has caused a global addiction is Tephra. The game was designed in a way that it consisted manic high-flying combat, amazing crafted gizmos, weapons, and automatons, and a fast and class-free character creation  system. It was to use of  d12, that Tephra got popular yet it had several other qualities that could engage its gamers for years.

The RPG games had such intricate backgrounds and characters, consequently,  create a demand for articulating and intriguing dialogues that have gamers glued to their monitors. The adaptation of the d20 system popularized by the D&D era games into the electronic RPGs has made them more realistic to play. Morbid games’ popular tabletop RPG series Journal brought the d20 system to life,  incorporating it with the Steampunk theme.

The hand drawn graphics in these games made them look more mysterious thus drawing the gamers further into the plot. While the tabletop industry has been facing a slight decline in the past few years, gaming enthusiasts still seek out games such as Ave Molech, which has truly brought the Table Top RPGs into the 21st century.

MMORPGs may be dominating the market right now, but the true blueprint for these games which was borrowed from the table top era has been replaced by modern day gaming elements which are somewhat lackluster to say the least. But the Steampunk genre still manages to mask all flaws and brings its own element of uniqueness and original content into the games. Steampunk’s origins may have been literary, but the concept’s evolution and application in various recreational platforms has pushed people’s imaginations beyond anywhere books could ever take them.
