10 Reasons I LOVE Proctoring AP Exams and Where I See EXPECT This CountryPosted by Broussard Shea on March 28th, 2021 Advanced Placement courses are senior high school classes that students can take to possibly earn college credit. The amount of college credit to be earned is dependent upon the score the pupil gets on an AP examination held each year during the first fourteen days of May. Each AP examination is essentially an individual final exam for a complete year course that, if the course were taken in college, could have two several semester finals. These AP exams are very tough! The College Board offered 31 subject exams this season; and I proctored 11 of the 20 exams provided by Doherty High School in Colorado Springs. Proctoring these crucial exams could be stressful or downright boring; but it is always fascinating to view these very special students. I have proctored AP exams now for 6 consecutive years in addition to a couple years in past times. I love proctoring APs for the next 10 reasons: 1) I reach witness MATURITY. The sophomores acquiring Government aren't practically as mature or sophisticated because the Calculus BC seniors. 2) I reach witness actual DRIVE in these students. Many, if not most, of the college students take several examinations. Almost all of these students take at least one AP exam every year of high school. Furthermore, some students take different exams--anywhere from 2 to 8 exams--in an individual year. For these learners a relationship actually forms between scholar and proctor. One can only admire your time and effort and drive these pupils possess. 3) I reach witness DETERMINATION. Most of these exams require 4 hrs of time. Several pieces of instructions and a rest take an hour. The initial section of the exam is a 1 hour multiplication choice test. The second part of the exam is really a 2 hour writing session. The students who'll likely earn the utmost score of 5 are the students still feverishly writing at the end of the 4 hours. 4) I get to witness RESPONSIBILITY. Learners must arrive early to each test with sharpened pencils, ink pens, their ID, and their receipt demonstrating settlement for that specific test. What is so very amazing is that they do! Forgetting an ID or receipt methods they don't get to take the test. Very rarely does anyone forget anything. 5) I get to witness true COMMITMENT. We often have students from our own school or other schools who would like to take an exam for a training course no local college is teaching. These students have a look at or buy the necessary textbook, study on their own, and take the exam without having taken the class. 6) I reach witness total RESPECT for people and property. I have proctored AP exams for 8 different years. For the reason that time, I have never really had a student be disrespectful to me. We hold our examinations at a local church which has a beautiful gymnasium, lightweight eight-feet tables in excellent condition, and padded chairs. These students are mature enough to appreciate having these good tables and chairs and so are always respectful of church residence and church rules. 7) I get to witness an amazing quantity of COOPERATION everyday. Because the church uses its facility each night, we should put everything away after the last test on every day. A large band of 90+ kids can have all of the chairs stacked in the chapel and all of the tables on the dollies and put away within 10 minutes. It is truly amazing to view! Within 10 to quarter-hour it is impossible to tell we were ever there. 8) I get to use teens again. I must say i do enjoy them and I love since they really haven't changed since i have retired. 9) I enjoy working with the staff again and accomplishing an enormous task. 10) I enjoy the extra income! These are all good reasons, but the very best section of proctoring AP exams is really having the opportunity to watch the students that are supposed to be our best and brightest truly demonstrating that they are really our Best and Brightest! As I think back over the past fourteen days and I survey this final band of students for this year, I feel good about the diversity I have seen and the positive wish I see because of this country. These pupils are our future leaders. It has been a satisfying two weeks. These kids are great! It really is refreshing to learn that the doom and gloom expressed in the media is not all true.
