In addition to checking current and future benefits and accessing many Social Security services, you can use your online My Social Security Account to check the status of hour disability application or appeal even file a social security disability insurance and SSI appeal.

 

If you don't have your My Social Security account, go to www.ssa.gov to get started. It will take about 10 minutes to sign up. Once you have set up your account, log in with your username and password. Then scroll down to the “Your Benefit Application” section and select “View Details” under the “More Info” heading to check on your application status.

Even if you were initially denied and had to appeal, you can also your My Social Security account to track your case through the various stages and hearing steps.

 

When you check your application status from your My Social Security account, you can find:

  • The “re-entry number”. This number allows you to return to an online application or appeal you have started but not yet submitted (you can save the information in your filing as you go)

  • The date Social Security received your application or appeal

  • Your hearing date and time, if you’ve requested a judges hearing

  • Whether a decision has been made on your case

 

Managing your case online tends to be faster than attempting to do it in person or by phone. Due to the covid 19 pandemic, many social security offices are closed for in person service. This has caused long wait times over the phone. So if you have the capability to manage your case online, that’s the best route.
