Immigrating to Canada as a Glazier

Posted by Richard Pierce on April 2nd, 2021

With facades made up entirely of glass panes, and massive windows that offer the occupants scenic views and a lot of natural light, many people will marvel at skyscrapers or beautiful residential buildings. Not a lot of people will think-“hey, it took a professional to put that window perfectly and securely in place”-and that is where glaziers have the advantage. A world’s most unassuming occupation means good demand and even better wages. Glaziers are very much in-demand in Canada, as with all other trades, so the odds of you being able to find a job are very good. Typically earning around ,900 a year in Canada, the demand for glaziers is 21% higher than the average trade worker salary which also gives an indication of the demand for qualified glaziers. There are many pathways that will allow you to settle, live and work in Canada full time and eventually become a Canadian citizen as it turns out for skilled trades workers.

Immigrating to Canada

The Express Entry Program is Canada’s premium immigration stream which is our first option. The program was created in 2019 to fast-track talented foreign workers' immigration applications so that they can move to Canada and start working as quickly as possible. There are three immigration streams in the program depending on your occupation and qualifications:

  • Skilled Worker Program- for people with managerial or professional qualifications and experience
  • Skilled Trades Program- for qualified trades workers and journeymen under one of the following major groups:
  1. Major Group 72, industrial, electrical, and construction trades; Glaziers are in this group
  2. Major Group 73, maintenance and equipment operation trades
  3. Major Group 82, supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture, and related production
  4. Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing, and utility supervisors and central control operators
  5. Minor Group 632, chefs and cooks
  6. Minor Group 633, butchers and bakers
  • Canada Experience Class- for people who fall into one of the above two categories and have at least one year of experience working in Canada already

Skilled Trades Program Requirements

  • Skilled Work Experience- Must have at least two years’ work experience within the last five years as a qualified glazier before you apply
  • Have a valid full-time job offer (minimum contract of one year) or a certificate of qualification as a plumber from a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal authority
  • Language ability- communicating effectively with customers would be an important part of your job and for this reason, you will need to pass a Canadian Language Benchmark test and earn a minimum CLB score of 4 in all four sections; writing, reading, speaking, and listening
  • Qualifications- if you have your qualifications and certification credentials evaluated then it will boost your score even though there is no educational requirement
  • Eligible- you must be in good health and you must have legal status in the country living now to be eligible to immigrate to Canada, you cannot have a criminal record

Make sure you get assessed in the province you want to work in as each province will have its own independent body to assess your skills.
