Master the Art of River Tubing and Cave Diving with These 9 Tips

Posted by dynamohi on June 11th, 2015

There are numerous locations across the US where you can access river tubing and cave diving adventures but if this is your first time, you foremost need some useful pointers to help you out. Check out the tips below:

Start planning early

As an organized activity that includes your friends, work colleagues etc., carpooling may be a great idea. Alternatively, you could consider hiring tour vans licensed and tailored for such purposes.

Bring enough cash and ID

River tubing requires inner tubes that you can buy and carry along to the tubing site but you may also consider renting these facilities since most tubing sites already have them available. In that case, make sure that you carry enough cash and bring along with your ID because most of these sites will only accept cash or credit/debit cards for payment.

Buy a 12 volt air pump adapter if bringing your own tubes.

If you plan to carry your own equipment for river tubing, consider buying a 12 volt DC pump adapter to inflate and deflate them on the site. This is better than hauling inflated tubes, which experts do not recommend. To be on the safe side, carry your own adapter too.

Don't carry your valuables while river tubing

Most sites are inclined to provide lockers for their clients to put their valuables. Make use of these facilities or risk losing your personal valuables lest the river swallows them up. These may include precious jewelry, car keys, Smartphones, expensive watches, etc.

Use sunblock

In most cases, you'll most likely spend long hours in the sun since these events are organized in summer. Sunburn could be the one thing that ruins your happy summer river tubing vacation. A tube or bottle of sun block should do the job.

Carry a dry change of clothes

River tubing and cave diving are obviously wet sports, so most of the time you'll be soggy, wet, smelling dirty and you can't travel back to your room looking like that. It’s imperative that you carry dry clothes to use for changing.

Don't carry any glassware

Glassware and items that are easily breakable such as Styrofoam coolers are just going to be troublesome and may give you a hard time. When glass breaks, it can easily pierce the tubing and requires extra care while Styrofoam cooler may fall apart, leaving a mess of litter. Go for hard plastic and you'll be fine.

BONUS: To help keep the environment clean and safe, always carry away your own litter or dispose of it if there’s a provision for that in the tubing site. The above tips should help make your experience a lasting and splendid one.
