5 Important Facts About Concrete Moisture Meter

A concrete moisture meter is a device that helps determine the moisture content in concrete bodies as well as wood panels, lumber, rolled products, etc. These devices are used to measure the absolute moisture during the construction of various building materials and foundations. They are primarily used in flooring constructions, load-bearing walls, subfloors, and during installations of beams and other inward structures.

Concrete moisture meters differ in their features and usage. Based on the priority of moisture detection and accuracy levels, you can choose your moisture meter with variable functions.

Five important facts and features of concrete moisture meters are:

  • It is advised to use non-destructive instruments with a metallic sphere sensor for the detection of moisture content. They offer very high-frequency penetration to determine the moisture content.
  • They are available with a numerical view as well as with graphic representation.
  • Concrete moisture meters were created as a variation on wood moisture meters used in earlier times. Therefore, they work in both concrete materials as well as in wooden conglomerates.
  • Due to technological developments, concrete moisture meters are often impact resistant.
  • Most Concrete moisture meters are available with automatic temperature reparations.

Ideally, a reading of 5 to 12 percent of the moisture is considered optimum, though up to 17 percent may be acceptable. However, to prevent further moisture build-up in the structure, any reading above 17 percent indicates a need for reinstallation. Moisture build-up can result in dampness and mould, which can be injurious to health. Therefore, it is advised to measure the moisture level with a Concrete moisture meter to avoid further damage to the structures.

Once a building or structure is completed, replacing the drywall or installations can be a Herculean task. A concrete moisture meter helps prevent such a dismal situation by measuring the moisture content at the necessary levels. This way, the building process can be simplified by replacing or reinstalling the damaged structure with lower moisture content. The foundations of concrete creations must be errorless to ensure a robust building.
