Online grocery shopping is a new trend in India among other e-tail markets. And for many it was a godsend. If you’re new to online grocery shopping, then you may be doubtful about its effectiveness. But, no one is new to online shopping, everyone is addicted to it. While this can be time and money saver, it can easily distract you, doubling your bill and stocking your pantry with stuff more than you require. At the same time you may end up forgetting a few essentials. Also See: Online Grocery, Grocery Shopping, Monthly Supermarket, Youre New, Shopping, Online, Grocery
Everyone who shops online treat supermarkets and online grocery sites as two different streams of shopping; while they are just two forms of shopping. And importantly, the best practices for sensible shopping are the same.
So, here are a few tips you can follow to not deviate and overspend:
Create a List: Be armed with the list of everything you will need for the upcoming week/month/quarter; nothing more or nothing less. Out of shopping experience from brick-and-mortar supermarket, you can make out the quantities of items you need for that period.
Stick to the List: You may bump into various tempting offers or that brand of cheese you always wanted, but stick to your list. If you find an essential that’s not on the list, you can go ahead and buy, but don’t forget to add to your list later.
Create your Budget: Just like you had a budget for your monthly supermarket visits, make one for your online grocery shopping too. And strictly stick to it.
Deactivate Automatic Reorders: Most online grocery shopping sites in India have the facility of reordering some or all items from your earlier order. Before you choose convenience over necessity, stop and crosscheck your list.
Compare Quantity and Cost: Online stores provide an opportunity to compare various quantities and their costs. But you need to take a step ahead and compare your to-buy list item’s quantities and buy the needed size and not the one under best offer.
Check the Vacancy in Freezer/Pantry: Even before you make a to-buy list, have your grocery storage space in mind. Before you buy the 5 kilos of mix vegetables on offer for just Rs.100, think of your consumption and storage facilities. You wouldn’t want to be surprised when two huge bags of items are waiting to be loaded into your refrigerator.
Compare the Differences: Total the grocery bill, delivery fees and tips you pay. And compare with your monthly supermarket bills. Also, take the quality and quantity of the items into consideration. Based on the results, you may want to change your online grocery shopping techniques. May be you can pamper yourself with a delicacy if your grocery fee is below your planned budget.
Online grocery shopping is not as tricky as it may sound sometimes. All you need to do is stop and question yourself, ‘Is it required?’ If it is a yes, proceed and if it is a no, then it is a no.
