Packing for Storage - The Things You Should Consider

Packing supplies

Let’s assume you are at a point where you have sold all the things you don’t want, and now we have called over the movers to pack up the items you wish to keep. First, come the packing supplies which you will need a lot of. You will have to get plenty of boxes of different sizes, packing tape, bubble wrap, foam peanuts, furniture covers, newspaper, and a marker pen. Yes, we know it seems like a lot, but keep in mind your belongings will be in a moving truck, then loaded off the vehicle, and placed in the unit. That means that the house movers will be doing many comforting and lifting possessions, which could easily damage them. 

Create a list

We cannot emphasize this enough, but a list is one of the most critical steps of the move. First, you will write down all the things you NEED to store. There are some things you can take to your new place and some things you can store. Keep in mind that the bigger your list, the larger the storage unit, and the higher the cost. We suggest making two lists. The second list can be all the things that you will be packing for storage. They can be in the order of the most important to the least important. Keep it with you till the end, and when you are labeling the boxes write down the label names beside the items on the list. 

Clean your belongings and the boxes

It is critical to clean all of your belongings and storage boxes before packing. Ignoring this step will ruin your belongings and cause distinctive mildew, which would stink up your new house as you unpack. Invest in an all-purpose cleaning spray, vacuum your bedsheets, cushions, curtains, mattresses, and rugs. Disinfectant wipes are an excellent investment when it comes to keeping your things clean as well.

Label your boxes

As we mentioned earlier, labeling your boxes is an excellent way of decluttering your mind. You can make separate lists with labels, for yourself. One plan would be for the things you are taking with you right now, and the other would contain the name of everything in storage. Leave the second list in the storage unit, or keep it in a safe place, so you know which box to reach for once you start clearing out the storage unit.
