As we know, inverter is a battery backup power device that converts DC battery power into an AC voltage. Today, the use of inverters are everywhere from a commercial place to a residential building you will find one or many there. Now, it became a necessity to have a power backup solution because the events of power shutdowns are sudden and unexpected. Whether you live in a developed country or a developing one, you should have power backup unit for your premises. So, here we will discuss the types of inverters available so that you can purchase the best one for your application.

Types of inverter

Well, inverters are classified into many types based on different factors but here we will discuss the kinds of inverter based on the output characteristics-

Square wave inverter- As the name suggests, these inverters have square wave output waveform of voltage. These inverters are not so popular nowadays and are least used among all the other types of inverters. The main reason is that almost all the modern day appliances are designed to work on sine wave inverters. If we supply square wave power into sine wave appliance then definitely it will slowly damage it that’s why the application of these inverters is very low. The cost of square wave inverters is also very low as compared to other two types. It can be used for powering simple tools with a universal motor.

Sine wave inverter- As almost all the appliances we are using nowadays are designed to work on sine wave, so sine wave inverters are perfect choice to invest in. It gives guarantee that the equipment you are going to connect with it will work properly and efficiently. No doubt, this type of inverter is widely used in various residential and commercial applications as an indoor or outdoor battery backup power solution. They are most expensive among all three types.

Modified sine wave inverter- The modified sine wave inverter comes between square and sine wave inverter in terms of complexity and cost. Being less costly than sine wave and efficient than square wave they are used in many applications. But these inverters can be used for complex systems that have delicate electronic or audio equipment. It may reduce the life of some equipment that not at all designed to work with it.
