How to Create More Space in a Small Area

If you have a smaller home, or if your home is aging, you may be interested in learning how to create more space in a small bathroom. You don't have to live with a cramped bathroom for the rest of your days. It can be done with a little know-how and some creative ideas. It's possible to make any size bathroom more pleasant to live in. Here are some tips:
Keep walls uncluttered. You can do this by cleaning up the mess in the bathroom. There's no need to keep all your toiletries in the sink, so try to keep the clutter out of the room. A cluttered bathroom looks unappealing. If your bathroom cabinets look like they're bursting at the seams, consider repurposing them as storage units. You can also store away some things that are not used on a regular basis. Philadelphia self storage units offer customers space for their belongings and will also send their employees out to pack up your things and store them for you.
Other things you can do to create more space is to install large windows. The large windows in the bathroom allow lots of light into the room. They also let you enjoy a wide view of the garden or back yard. If you have a large window, you may consider replacing it with another larger one. You can also add skylights to a small bathroom and make it appear larger.
Install a fan in the bathroom. It's important to keep air circulating in the room. This will help keep your pipes and ducts free from clogs. Of course, if you want to create a luxurious bathroom you can always invest in an expensive whirlpool tub.
Install large windows. This is especially true of bathrooms that are attached to a large central heating system. Even a small gap in the insulation can cause heat to escape. In this case, installing double panes of glass on the windows can provide great savings. You can use shades to keep sunlight from damaging the wall behind the windows, but you'll probably need to buy new blinds to block the sunlight completely.
Use the right colors. Light colors are often associated with bathrooms. However, you can use dark colors as long as they are kept to a minimum. You should keep both the walls and the floors in the open plan area neutral.
Add lighting to your open plan bathroom. Consider hanging sconces over sinks or medicine cabinets. Or, you could hang a small fluorescent tube light over a shower head to create a nice, dim glow in the bathroom.
Replace old bathroom accessories. If your fixtures are worn and dusty, you can give them a new lease on life by replacing them with new ones. The most popular bathroom accessories that you can replace include bathroom cabinets, toilet seats, and faucets. As an added bonus, you can also choose to add a bar to your bathroom if you wish.
Spruce up your mirrors. Mirrors can also serve as your windows. Mirrors allow you to see your bathroom as it truly is - a room where you can be alone, relax, read a book, or get a good tan. Invest in a quality pair of mirror glasses to enhance your open plan bathroom.
Invest in beautiful flooring. This goes without saying, but it is worth stating anyway: keep your bathroom floors clean. If your floors are cracked, dirty, or stained, they will not only look bad, they will also be uncomfortable to use. If you need to, there are a number of ways to spruce up your bathroom flooring. From buying a bright floor to polishing your existing flooring to adding decorative rugs to your bathroom, there are many ways to make your space better looking and more comfortable.
Creating an open plan bathroom does not have to cost a lot of money. In fact, some simple changes can be enough to upgrade the look of your home. Once you have improved the appearance of your home's floor plan, you're well on your way to achieving the open plan everyone wants in their own bathrooms.
To learn how to create more space in a bathroom, think about how you can use every available nook and cranny in your home. For example, by clearing your bathroom of all clutters you'll be able to improve the visual appeal of your room. Another great idea is to remove any furniture that blocks off certain rooms or which otherwise makes the room feel claustrophobic. Finally, to help you out, put up some lighting. Lighting will highlight certain areas of the room, and it also improves your mood.
Making these changes opens up the room and makes it feel more inviting. Something such as mirrors mimics a larger space than it really has. It is a great way to capitalize on small areas in your home such as a bathroom.
