Common Faults And Troubleshooting Of Padlocks

Posted by Kate Gu on April 21st, 2021

Padlocks are most used in daily life. Since the parts are enclosed in the lock body, there is no need to install them during use, so it rarely fails. Padlocks that have been used outdoors for a long time will have problems such as lock core and lock beam not jumping.

1.The lock does not turn

The failure of the lock heart not turning often occurs in a high-quality padlock that has been locked out of the door for a long time and is not opened frequently. The padlock has been exposed to wind and rain for a long time, and rust and dirt accumulated between the lock core and the lock body have caused the lock core to be unable to rotate.

Before troubleshooting, check carefully whether the key you hold is the key of the lock, and then eliminate the fault after confirming it.

The way to eliminate it is to pour a little diesel or gasoline, wait a while, insert the key and try to open it. If it cannot be opened, add some diesel or gasoline, soak it for a while, use the key to gently turn it back and forth until it is fully opened. Never use too much force to break the key.

In addition, the lock core may not turn due to damage to the key teeth. At this time, you should carefully look for the damaged part of the teeth. If the damage is small, the lock can still be unlocked after repair; if the damage is large, you should find another spare key to unlock.

2.The key is not flexible

The key is not flexible when used for a long time. You can sprinkle some pencil powder {graphite} in the keyhole, and then switch it several times. Never add engine oil to the keyhole for lubrication, as this will affect the movement of the marbles and cause unexpected opening failures.

3.Lock the beam without jumping

The failure of the lock beam not to jump is mostly caused by the excessive tolerance of the lock beam shape and position. The lock beam and the hole of the lock beam appear scratching on one side, and the rust and accumulated dirt make the lock beam unable to jump.

Remedy: Insert the key into the lock core, turn it to the open position, and use a small hammer to gently tap the lock body down or pull the lock body forcefully. If the vibration does not open, you can add a little gasoline or diesel to the lock beam, and then tap it gently until the lock beam jumps out. After the lock beam jumps out, use a soft hammer to correct the lock beam. After repairing, you can continue to use it.

4. The key breaks into the lock body

The key breakage into the lock body fault occurs frequently, and the troubleshooting method should be based on the breakage situation.

The key is broken into the lock body from the root, and a section is left in the lock hole. Use tweezers or needle-nose pliers to clamp out.

The key breaks into the lock core from the middle and cannot be shaken out. In this case, the only way to remove the seven-hole seal on the lock body is to shake out the pin and take out the lock core and the broken key together, then re-install the lock core and the pin and seal it with aluminum wire.
