Dr Robert O Young: Why an Alkalarian Approach to Diet is the Route to Optimal He

According to Dr Robert O Young and his New Biology principle, the underlying root cause of all disease in the human body is over-acidification. This essentially means that when the body starts producing more acid than necessary for optimal functioning, the side effects can include an imbalance in the metabolic processes. Excessive acid formations within the body can also corrode body tissues, which can prove dangerous as the acid continues to eat into arteries and veins. If this condition remains unchecked or untreated, it can hamper cellular functions and activities, right from the neural functioning in the brain to the way the heart beats. Thus, over-acidification in the body, results in interference with all major bodily functions, thereby resulting in a host of diseases. This is why Robert O Young has proposed an alkaline approach to ensuring optimal health. This approach counters the excessive formation of acids inside the body, thereby promoting good health and preventing disease.

Dr Robert O Young calls his new principle the New Biology principle because it is different from the old principles of biology, which believed that human diseases originated from germs that invaded the body externally. However, what Robert O Young proposes is that when the body is at the optimal alkaline balance, germs are unable to fester inside the body, resulting in prevention of diseases.

Dr Robert Young has an interesting theory on his alkaline principle. He compares the human body to a fish tank. Just as a fish tank’s internal environment needs to be healthy, the integrity of our internal bodily fluids also needs to be maintained accordingly. Robert Young compares our body organ systems and cells to fish inside a tank. Our cells work to transport food while also removing wastes, very similar to fish swimming inside a tank. Instead of rich oxygen, if the tank were to be filled with carbon monoxide, the result would be a reduction in alkaline pH, which fosters an acidic environment. This threatens the overall health and safety of our internal cells and organs.

So, what causes excess acid formation in the body? Dr Robert Young believes that when we eat the wrong type of food or over indulge in terms of eating, it increases acid levels inside the body. For instance, foods such as sugar, dairy and animal protein increase acid levels in the body. When the body is unable to digest or consume the excess acids produced by these foods, it starts putrefying and decomposing. The result is a gradual buildup of chemicals and toxic acid waste. Robert Young believes that an alkaline approach to diet will counter these harmful effects and aid in promoting good health.
