Cycle Helmets

Many people spend lots of time and money choosing the correct bike, but give little or no thought to the one piece of equipment that could save their life - their helmet.
It is vitally important that you choose the right helmet for you - one that is tough, gives great protection and will keep you safe. Fortunately, the Giro Ionos cycling helmet is just that and, to top it off, it is also lightweight, comfortable and looks great.
The Giro Ionos is the helmet of choice for the 7-times Tour de France champion, Lance Armstrong. If it's good enough for him€¦€¦
In order to make the Ionos both tough and lightweight, Giro use a polycarbonate shell and an in-mold sub-frame EPS liner. The end result is a helmet that is not only very stylish, but is also one of the most technologically advanced helmets they have ever produced.
The Ionos has 21 large, reinforced vents that provide superb ventilation. These vents create a cooling system that Giro calls their Wind Tunnel System. This Wind Tunnel System forces nice cool, fresh air in and around your head, and forces any warmer air out. This ensures that your head stays cool, even on the warmest of days. The strength around the vents is provided by the in-mold composite sub frame - this is a fancy way of saying that the helmet has carbon fiber reinforcements running through it.
The Ionos also has X-Static fabric pads that are woven with pure silver fibers. These prevent the growth of smelly micro organisms, and keep everything fresh. Giro claims that they kill 100% of bacteria. These pads can be easily washed in the washing machine.
The Ionos also features the new ROC LOC 5 fitting system. Apparently, this is 40% lighter than the previous ROC LOC 4 system.
This ROC LOC 5 system allows the rider to adjust both the fit tension and the vertical fit by simply twisting a small micro-dial (18mm in diameter) at the back of the helmet. This can be easily and quickly done by using just your finger and thumb, and the whole exercise can be carried out whilst riding your bike. It means that you quickly tighten up the fit when going over demanding terrain, and loosen it off a bit when moving over flatter ground. The micro dial also has audible clicks, so that you can hear when you are twisting it.
The helmet straps pass through the arms of the ROC LOC system, and this keeps them nice and close to your head. It also has 2 Dual Pods that grasp the back of your head to give you more protection.
The Ionos is available is 3 sizes.
It certainly isn't a cheap helmet, but I think it is money well spent. It will give you total protection when you need it. Buying a cheap, less well-made helmet is certainly a false economy.
So, to sum up, the Giro Ionos is a really tough, sleek, stylish helmet that offers your great comfort and fit, whilst ensuring that you have total protection. Not bad!
