KHEERGANGA TREK

Posted by Zoya Narula on April 24th, 2021

Few believe that Kartikeya, Lord Shiva's son, arrived here after losing a race to his brother Ganesha. For thousands of years, he was in a state of ‘Samadhi' (meditation). Lord Shiva was the one who sought to entice his son back by channelling a sea of Kheer (rice pudding). The word Kheerganga literally means "milky white holy water." Both Hindu and Sikh pilgrims visit the site for religious reasons. Distance of Kheerganga from Manikaran is 22 kms and  known for its hot water spring, which is open even during heavy snowfall, and bathing in it is an unforgettable experience. The trail passes by famous tourist attractions such as Rudra Nag Waterfall and Shiv Temple on its way to the top. You can go on the Kheerganga trek if you want to relax while admiring the magnificent Himalayan scenery.
