Healthy Snacks for Pregnant Women

During pregnancy, ladies generally have an insatiable appetite as they progress from one month to the other. The craving to eat variety of items ranging from sweets to snacks is high. The reason is simple, it all zeroes down to the development of the baby in the womb which demands more nourishment. During this period, ladies generally tend to eat high caloric foods which are more tempting to satisfy their hunger cravings.  This results in either overweight of the mother, or does not meet the demand in nourishment of the child.

But this problem can be avoided by munching Healthy snacks for pregnant womenfor time to time! Before we jump into the healthy snacks division, the expecting ladies have to keep in mind that although they are eating for two the second one is much smaller compared to them.

Guidelines to follow:

  • Always stay hydrated. Ensure drinking 8 glasses of water every day.
  • Keep a check on caloric intake and control your craving. The average caloric intake of 350-500K/Cal meets the requirements.
  • Completely avoid drinking and smoking.
  • Ensure a nutritious and balanced diet.
  •  Have weight checks run from time to time.

The snacks which Pregnant womentake during pregnancy are not just to satisfy their hunger but also to provide sufficient nutrition to both the mother and child.
 
Fruits are the best sources to erase cravings and act as hubs of nutrition and vitamins. Intake of various fruits like Apple, Banana, Oranges are recommended. Other fruits of one’s choice can be taken with the advice of doctor. It is better to avoid Papaya, Grapes and Pineapple during pregnancy.
 
Dry Fruits and handful of nuts keep a check on hunger. Raisins are the best source of fiber, iron and potassium and satisfy the sweet quotient. Almonds, cherries and walnuts are ideal dry fruits to intake.
 
Salads with a mix of fruits and vegetables serve as a light snack which fills the tummy. Dark green leafy vegetables are one of the best foods during pregnancy. Carrots are rich source of vitamin A. Cauliflower, spinach and others are good to be eaten as stir fry. 
 
Yoghurt is a good source of proteins, vitamins and minerals. It also has helpful bacteria which aid in digestion. It also meets your calcium requirement.

Whole grain cereal or breakfast cereal topped with fresh fruits, low fat cream and honey serves as sumptuous meal. These days the cornflakes or breakfast cereal constitutes of vitamins and minerals.
