Considering a Lawsuits Against Invokana?

Posted by Lawsuit Information on August 11th, 2015

You may be eligible for compensation if you experienced serious health problems after taking Invokana. If you took it while pregnant and your child developed birth defects, you may also be eligible. If you had complications with your pregnancy while taking this drug or took it while nursing and your child had problems, you may also be eligible. Given that this is such a new drug on the market, lawsuits are just starting to surface.

The drug was approved as a glucose stabilizer for type 2 diabetics by the FDA in 2013. By 2014 there were already 20 reports of ketoacidosis in people taking the drug with the FDA. Some of the serious side effects that are eligible for lawsuits include kidney failure, stroke, heart attack and the aforementioned diabetic ketoacidosis. These are very serious side effects which can lead to death, coma or life altering conditions.
Because this drugs and those that are similar to it are so new to the market, the lawsuits have only just begun. They are causing abnormally high levels of blood acids and the FDA has just recently released a warning in 2015 that the drug causes ketoacidosis.

This warning was just as recent as May 2015 and was in response to the 20 cases that were reported to the FDA in just a year. The FDA has warned people to look for symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain and unusual tiredness as they may be signs of more serious underlying conditions caused by the drug. Sadly, the FDA said more negative reports are continuing to come in about the drug.

The drug company that manufactures this drug is Janssen Pharmaceuticals which is a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson. This company has a history of criminal behavior, fraud and creating dangerous drugs. They have already been the subject of huge lawsuits for other drugs but their profits are so much higher than their penalties that they seem unstoppable.

Other safety reports have been filed as well. 450 cases of renal toxicity were reported to The Institute for Safe Medical Practices. These cases also reported kidney stones, UTI’s, kidney failure, severe dehydration and unexplained weight loss. Even during the initial tests before the drug was approved, people had a higher rate of developing a fungal infection. Furthermore, 50 cases have been reported of allergic reactions and animal testing showed it caused cancerous tumors.

If you feel you have experienced serious side effects of this drug that you were not warned about, you should consult a qualified law firm. Remember to seek attention immediately if you start to experience abnormal symptoms. Also there is inherent risk in taking new drugs that have not yet been on the market long enough to be fully understood. You should always consult with your doctor about all your health conditions, tell them about all the supplements and medications you’re taking as well as any allergies you have. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you are advised not to take this medication.
