Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata had a lot to share during Gamescom last week, where he talked about the game’s debugging and localization that’s making the wait a little longer. In an interview with GameSpot, he shared more about a worldwide release.

“This may be something that we are little bit embarrassed to talk about, but really, this is the first time that we’ve done a packaged, standalone Final Fantasy game with a simultaneous global launch, so we didn’t have the setup to deal with that, really,” Tabata told GameSpot.

“The first thing we had to do was rearrange our internal structure to create something that could do that. That was the first important work on the project.”The last main Final Fantasy title was Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, which released in Japan on November 21st, 2013, followed by a release in the other regions in February 2014.Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and is expected to release sometime in 2016.

Square Enix has released three new screenshots for Final Fantasy XV, providing a closer look at a handful of the game’s diverse and incredibly detailed environments.

The first image showcases a sprawling outdoor setting, as Noctis and his three companions hit the open road. Meanwhile, the second reveals an eerie underground dungeon, while the third and final screenshot shows off Duscae’s vibrant city of Lestallum.

Check out each in the gallery below. Final Fantasy XV got a new trailer at Gamescom, offering an emotional glimpse into the backstory of Noctis. Last week, we also learned from the game’s director Hajime Tabata that Final Fantasy XV may borrow tech from Just Cause 3.
