Is Your Shower Drain Smelly? This Could Be the Reason Why

You want to take a nice and refreshing shower after a long day. The problem is that you can’t because your shower drain is stinky.

This is one of the most common issues in plumbing in Coquitlam that people experience. A lot of things can get into the shower drain, especially if you don’t use a drain grate.

The first thing that you should do is check to see if the smell is truly coming from the drain. It might be coming elsewhere such as around the toilet. If it is coming from the shower drain, find out what kind of smell it is. If it smells musty, open the drain cover. Check if there are molds growing under it. If the drain cover isn’t properly sealed, it gives room for molds to grow.

Use a mold and mildew bathroom cleaner. Remove the drain cover and apply the bathroom cleaner. Leave it there to soften it up and make it easier to scrub or wash off. You might need to wait for a few minutes or even overnight if it is particularly dirty.

You can also use the boiling water technique. You just bring water up to a boil and pour it down the drain. It will help dissolve particles that could be in there and will also help disinfect your drain.

To get rid of the unwanted smell, make a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. It will fizz and bubble up. Pour it down the drain and leave it there for an hour before washing it off.

If the smell is a sulfuric odor or has a gas-like quality to it, chances are, you need to put some water into the P-trap. The P-Trap is what keeps the sewer smell away from your bathrooms. If the water that has collected there evaporates, the sewer smell will seep into your bathroom. Just pouring two cups of water down the drain will do the trick.

Regularly remove collected hair as well. You can use a drain grate to catch the hair. This can cause clogging in your drain as well and excess soap or soap particles could get lodged in the collected hair.

Try using a drain snake if the clog is much deeper. A drain snake can effectively remove clumps of hair that have worked their way in the drain pipes. Just keep on inserting the drain snake in the pipes until you hit something. When this happens, simply rotate the drain snake to loosen up the debris. When the resistance is gone, you can pull it up.

When nothing else works, hire professional plumbers in Coquitlam. The problem might be elsewhere in your plumbing in Coquitlam.

Look for professional plumbers in Coquitlam such as Tri-City Plumbing & Heating to do the job.
