Confessions of a High School Diva

watch online putlocker It's unbelievable what kind of film awards are given these days. For example the "2004 Teen Choice Award". A few days ago, 18-year-old Lindsay Lohan got it in four categories - and this despite the fact that she starred in films such as "Confessions of a High School Diva". This silly bore was directed by Sara Sugarman, whose trendy name says it all. With bright and playful colors, she created a film that might have been shown as another screwed up Pro7 production on TV, but please not in the cinema. The pseudo-comedy grossed little more than its $ 25 million in production costs in the US. The only question is where did the money go on this film? That is not evident in any of the ninety minutes or so. Mary Elizabeth (Lindsay Lohan), called Lola, has to move from New York, the city of her dreams, to the less tranquil New Jersey. At her new school, Carla (Megan Fox) is the most popular of all girls so far. A role that Lola would logically like to claim for herself. In keeping with this, both are applying for the lead role in the next school performance. Since Lola would later like to become an actress and already has relevant experience, she can actually snap the role away from Carla. But shortly afterwards, the next duel between the two would-be divas is emerging: Lola's favorite band has broken up and will be giving their farewell concert in a few days. Carla was able to secure tickets for this event through some contacts. When Lola hears this, it is clear to her that she has to go to the concert in any case. Just like at the subsequent party with the singer of the band, which Carla will also visit. History is one of the main problems with High School Diva's Confessions. Not only that she comes from completely sucked out. It simply has too many scenes that want to be highlights, but as such don't work at all. The story wanders up and down between the story of the theater performance, the concert and the party after, the competitive battle between Lola and Carla at school and the must-also-still-somehow-be-purely love story. The love story between Stu and Lola that becomes apparent within the first few minutes seems so applauded that it is actually a cheek to call this a love story. If the plot were only predictable, but followed a run-of-the-mill arc of suspense with a halfway continuously rising curve, the film might have helped. But no, the scriptwriters donated so many unimportant subplots to the script that they all have to be checked off one after the other at the end. For a film like “Confessions of a High School Diva” that just wants to entertain, it would have been enough to concentrate only on preparing for the theater performance or the concert followed by a party. But as it is, the individual story elements are thrown together to form a colorful mix that can neither create tension nor empathy with the characters. In any case, no time is invested in the introduction and further development of the individual characters. Instead, screenwriter Gail Parent makes use of various well-known stereotypes, which prevent the audience from identifying with the main actors from the outset. The classification of the individual acting performances is not that easy with such a lousy script with almost pathologically clichéd dialogues and such a gritty soundtrack (in which Lumidee dominates pretty much everything with her "Never leave you"), but still feasible. Admittedly, the weak roles don't really produce much, but much less was extracted from them. Why Lindsay Lohan, who often looks like a mixture of Alicia Silverstone and Melissa Joan Hart, was literally showered with prizes remains a mystery. Megan Fox ’job is to look good and still be hated by everyone - which she does very well! It remains to be seen whether one of the two young leading actresses will prove to be really talented in other films. In “Confessions of a High School Diva”, nobody stands out from the ranks of average actors. On the contrary. Often, overacting, i.e. acting that appears to be very artificial and immediately recognizable as such, involuntarily creates funny situations. The creation of a small checklist should make it clear what makes “Confessions of a High School Diva” one of those films that the world really would not have needed: A deeply bad and amateurishly staged story. Young actors who may still find their talent themselves and expand
