Most keto supplements on the market contain what are known as exogenous ketones. If you are not sure what the difference is, here is a quick recap:

When your body is deprived of carbohydrates, the liver starts to produce three types of ketones. They are acetone, acetoacetate, and beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB). These ketones are called endogenous ketones because they are produced by the body naturally. The word endogenous is derived from the Greek word endon, meaning ‘within’. Today, scientists have come up with a different way to administer ketones from external sources. These are what are known as exogenous ketones. Exogenous is derived from the Greek word exo, meaning ‘outside’. Most exogenous ketones are made from beta-hydroxybutyrate compounds that are bound to mineral ions such as potassium, magnesium, and sodium. This form of exogenous ketones is referred to as ketone salts. Ketone salt supplements work by mimicking the natural process of ketosis by elevating the levels of ketones in the blood.By taking a keto supplement, the body is able to reach a state of ketosis in a shorter period of time. It also helps maintain this metabolic state, even if you have gone a few carbs over the maximum limit.
