Natalie Roth ? A new breed of LA singer/songwriter

Posted by Universal on August 26th, 2015

Every once in a while, somebody comes along in the LA music scene who doesn’t really fit the cookie cutter pattern. Singer/songwriters may be natural exceptions to the rule by definition, but in the currently rather stale area of endlessly recycled pop music, the standouts are the ones who are really different.

Being a standout, in fact, can be a pretty hard road in modern pop music. Cookie cutter pop is all about doing things the easy way and sounding like everybody else, but being a standout is really hard work. Natalie Roth seems to have taken to this rather harsh environment with gusto, and the result is some very interesting music and musical positions indeed.

LA native Natalie Roth has a background in films, which explains the quality of her videos, but it doesn’t begin to describe the range of her songs, or her subject matter. For example, her 2014 song Israel was about peace both non-Jewish and Jewish people and asked people to join her mission all around the world. A certain amount of gutsiness? Absolutely.

The result of this combination of individuality and talent is a very interesting collection of songs. She has her roots in what is very loosely described as a world pop music/pop-country genre, although she loves all types of music and obviously isn’t feeling obliged to stick to any particular script. Her current song, I Wish You Were Here, can only be described as a true Emo song with a well-deserved capital E.

This is pop, okay, but it’s a particular type of pop. It has a pop hook, but this is real emo. Roth never seems to do things by halves. Roth’s song Daddy was a true emotional epic about family separation that any country singer would have loved to have written.

If you explore her new music and earlier releases on YouTube and Facebook, you'll see a very eclectic but quite unique range of materials. Take a little time to find out more about Roth, and you’ll find that this young lady has a lot to offer. You can check out her website here at http://natalieroth.net/.
