World Press Freedom Day Observed at International Journalism Centre

New Delhi: The mother body of many journalistic organizations-IJC-International Journalism Centre observed World Press Freedom Day on 3rd May, the day of its inception by United Nations.

This online Conference provided an opportunity to journalists, civil society representatives, national authorities, academics and the broader public to discuss emerging challenges to press freedom and journalists’ safety, and to work together on identifying solutions.

Speaking at the conference Dr. Sandeep Marwah President of International Journalism Centre informed that, “This year’s World Press Freedom Day theme “Information as a Public Good” serves as a call to affirm the importance of cherishing information as a public good, and exploring what can be done in the production, distribution and reception of content to strengthen journalism, and to advance transparency and empowerment while leaving no one behind,”

International Journalism Centre will highlight three key topics a. Steps to ensure the economic viability of news media, b. Mechanisms for ensuring transparency of Internet companies, c. Enhanced Media and Information Literacy capacities that enable people to recognize and value, as well as defend and demand, journalism as a vital part of information as a public good added Marwah.

The event was supported by ICMEI-International Chamber of Media And Entertainment Industry, AAFT School of Mass Communication & Journalism and WPDRF-World Peace Development And Research Foundation.
