Nigeria Single Moms Being a single mom is naturally a tough task and in a conservative country like Nigeria, the situation is still worse. Nigeria is a country where the women are highly dominated by the men. After the marriage, a woman is not allowed to speaking against her man. She may be sexually abused in the public but when a woman talks about it, she is considered an unlawful human being. Sexual education was also denied for women and the rape of single women is very common in Nigeria. Unprotected intercourse has led to an increased number of AIDS victims and the alarming figures have now attracted the attention of the world to Nigeria. The basic problem that any African woman in Nigeria faces as a single mom are financial problems. The women are considered low compared to the men and a proper education is generally not provided to them. The uneducated and the unemployed women cannot survive in Nigeria as a single mom. If the woman is widowed, she will be forced to marry a relative of her late husband immediately after his death. Protest against this is considered a crime and the woman will be then excluded from the society. This is the actual condition of many women in Nigeria. However, certain states are providing legal rights for the women and help them to lead their life in the way they wish. The single moms are mostly not interested in another relationship until they find the right person. The many financial and dating scams are prevailing in Nigeria that exploit women and leave them uncared for. The single mom groups can be counted with fingers in Nigeria while such support can be found in every street in the western countries. To be a better single mom, African women should form such groups and encourage others to share their experience. The rights of African women are denied but the law treats everybody equal. The single moms in Nigeria are struggling to bring up their children, escaping from the preying eyes of rude men. However, government is ready to help single moms to bring up their kids. Many scholarships have been planned to help single moms financially. African women should educate themselves pursuing a degree that can greatly help them in their career. The status of women in many underdeveloped states is still very bad and there are no traces of single mom living happily in those areas. After suffering for many years in the hands of cruel men, African women are now courageous to stay as single moms and nurture their kids in a better way. However, the family laws in Nigeria are not very clear and there are many legal issues concerning child custody in Nigeria. As a single mom, it is your responsibility to secure your child legally and you have to follow the legal proceedings after getting divorced. Ignorance of law cannot be stated as an excuse here after and women should start coming out of their family if they are not happy. Hundreds of single moms are now surviving in Nigeria and they are leading a happy life earning the income on their own Nigeria Jobs
