6 Stunning Gorgeous beaches in San Francisco You Shouldn’t Miss

San Francisco has something to offer to every tourist, including the incredibly beautiful beaches. While some beaches are located right on the ocean, others lie along the bay. So, when you decide where to stay in San Francisco, make sure to book a hotel in an area from where you can access most of the beaches of the city. Beaches you must visit during your stay in San Francisco are:

Baker Beach

Baker Beach is located near the Golden Gate Bridge. It is one of the most well-known spots in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Although the beach is not safe to swim, you will be entertained by the Battery Chamberlin, a huge historic military gun installation from 1904.

Fort Funston Beach

You may not have heard about Fort Funston Beach if you are not very familiar with the Northern California coast. It is the southernmost beach located on the Pacific Coast side of the city. You are allowed to take your horses and dogs here. So, it is a great place to bond with your furry friends. However, the beach is very windy. So, if the forecast calls for heavy winds, you better not visit it.

Mile Rock Beach

Mile Rock Beach is another great beach of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Located in a small cove below the Lands End Viewpoint, this beach is small and rocky, but it is still a lovely place to visit. You can follow the nearby hiking trails around here, or explore the beach to find picnic tables, a lighthouse, and a shipwreck.

Montara State Beach

When you are in San Francisco, you can never miss playing beach volleyball. Located on the north side of Montara along the San Mateo Country Coast, Montara State Beach is the perfect place for a game. The beach also features sculpted sandstone cliffs that are ideal for photographing. Other popular activities you can enjoy here are fishing, hiking, and beachcombing.

Kirby Cove Beach

A great spot for relaxing, Kirby Cove Beach offers stunning city views and sandy shores. The beach is at the base of the Marin Headlands which is at the north of the entrance to San Francisco Bay. To reach here, you have to hike a mile-long way along the old Kirby Cove Road starting from the parking lot on Conzelman Road. This long hike is one of the reasons this beach is rarely crowded.

Dunes Beach

If you like to walk on the pristine sand and gaze out at crystal clear blue water, then you are going to love Dunes Beach. It is one of the northernmost beaches in Half Moon Bay State Beach. You need to have a short, steep, and sandy hike down through the dunes to get here. However, the beach is not at all crowded. So, you can have some peace and quiet here.
