Why does studying math even need math study skills? Because good study skills are essential so as to understand math. The reason why good math study skills are required is basically because math builds upon the lesson before. If you don't understand the current lesson, you almost certainly wont manage to understand the next lesson. Understanding Math Requires Understanding the Previous Section In other courses, understanding the prior section may not effect another section. For example, in history if you didn't memorize the facts or understand the brand new War, this will not mean you can't understand and pass the quiz on the Civil War. This just does not work in math. 5 Ways That Do Not Work in Studying Math 1. Memorization Alone WON'T Work In addition to the need to know the prior section, memorization alone won't work in solving math problems. [IMPORTANT see exception to this below]. Memorization will not alone, help you to comprehend the math. Memorization will not be able to assist you to use your knowledge to solve various problems on a single topic. The reason memorization won't work in math is because there are many methods to ask the same question. Just because you show up to class is not grounds the teacher should pass you. And as you passed in every worksheet isn't a reason you need to pass. You will not know the material and be able to pass a test when you have daydreamed in class, copied answers to worksheets and basically didn't do the work.
