Skills You Must Have To Become A Data Scientist

There is no denying that Data Science is one of the fasting blooming fields with numerous job opportunities. As per reports, the global machine learning market is predicted to reach .83 Billion by 2024. And that’s why a lot of candidates are opting for Post Graduate Program in Data Science.

    The data science postgraduate courses provide hands-on exposure to various types of technologies. Data scientist are always on demand as businesses come across various complications that a data scientist can only resolve. And therefore, there is no doubt that after completing the Post Graduate program in data science, candidates will get several potential job opportunities. 

   But there is a massive shortage of skilled data scientists. Even though many students are choosing data science and business analytics course, there is still a scarcity of data scientists with the required skills. 

So in this article, I am mentioning some skills you need to become a successful data scientist. 

In order to master in data science and business analytics one has to develop the following skills. 

• Fundamentals 

Having a stronghold on the fundamentals and concepts is one of the most critical skills for a Data Scientist. The fundamentals include Relational Algebra, Matrics and Linear Algebra Functions, Binary Tree and Hash Functions, Database Basics, Extract Transform Load and many more. 

• Statistics

Statistics is also one of the essential skills for a Data Scientist. This enables you to collect, analyze, organise, and interpret data. This includes Exploratory Data, Descriptive Statistics (mean, median, range, standard deviation, variance), Analysis, Probability Theory, Percentiles and Outliers, Random Variables, etc. These concepts will help you make credible business decisions from the data. 

• Programming Language

With the help of programming language, you can manipulate the data and apply algorithms to come up with insights. R and Python are one of the most used languages by Data Scientist. These programs will help the Data Scientist to organise unstructured data sets. 

• Data Extraction and  Transformation

Suppose we have multiple data sources like Google Analytics, DB, MySQL. And you have to extract data from these available sources, and then you have to transform this data for the purpose of storing it in a paper format for analysis. And finally, you have to load it in the Data Warehouse, where you can analyse the data. So in order to become successful in this field one has to learn all these aspects. 

• Communication Skills

Data scientist clearly understand how to analyze and extract the data. However, for anyone to be successful in this role and benefit your organization, you should be able to communicate successfully with your team members who don’t have the same professional background.
