The changes have proven higher popular but our panellists’ scores suggest there is still room for Concord to rise higher again. Grab an esky of cold beer – even play in your thongs – and carve your way through the Aussie bush. Our golf courses and renowned hospitality provide Members with world class facilities for golf whilst enjoying fellowship and camaraderie with their sandringham golf course guests. Tempe Golf Driving Range, near the airport, has 20 shaded bays and floodlights, so you can practice your swing in the evening. Royal Queensland’s results for Design Variety are fittingly a standout for such a cerebral layout – as the PGA field will discover later this year. Five of the past six rankings have placed The Cut in the 30s as it settles into a clear home after an early fascination with the windswept WA layout. One judge called it “Australian golf’s roller-coaster ride” and golfers who head south of Perth to find out know why. The stunning course is always at the mercy of the elements in a striking setting. The largest drop of any course in the top 50 belies a golf course that continues to tempt and test golfers from the west. Hillview Golf Course is an ideal location for Corporate or Charity Golf days in Perth. Conveniently located just 20 minutes from Perth CBD and with easy access from Roe Highway, Hillview can cater to all golf groups for all requirements. Search South Australia’s attractions for a wide range of sports and recreational activities, from skydiving to scuba diving. Pro shop and driving range open from 630am Sunday to Friday and open from 6am Saturdays. The site’s beautiful sandy base is now fully showcased and coupled with clever contouring. Predictably, the Sydney course hits its all-time high ranking on the back of the finished project. Moonah Links’ Legends course consistently outshines its elder sister but inconsistently struggles to find a logical ‘home’ in our ranking. Collectively, our panel noticed a discernible superiority in Design Variety when compared to the neighbouring Open course, while it’s another layout to regularly draw the word ‘fun’ from our judges. All six rankings post-redesign of Grange’s West course have landed the Adelaide layout in the 40s. Several panellists lodged their scores during or close to the Women’s Australian Open last February, when the course was in full tournament mode. Golfers are spoilt for choice, from world-renowned resort courses to lush public layouts available for very reasonable rates. It’s an indication of the exceptional depth in our country’s 1,500 or so courses. As you will see from our six ‘snapshot’ layouts, many are past Top 100 denizens – and might return there again. But if you were to use this list as the starting point for planning a golf getaway or two, you wouldn’t be disappointed by the calibre of golf courses to be experienced. The quality on this list represents an embarrassment of riches for Australian golf. With about 1,500 golf courses in the country, sitting inside the top 200 still places a course in the upper echelon. Meanwhile, the numeric difference between courses grows increasingly tighter as you venture down the list. Pacific Harbour has been a perennial second-half course ever since it opened, and although this marks its lowest position to date, it wouldn’t surprise to see it push back up towards the middle of the list again in future. Regarded by many as the Sunshine Coast’s best layout, Pelican Waters has curiously been on a rankings slide for several years. With plans for course alterations in the pipeline, its next number could be the most compelling yet for the Queensland Open venue. In that light, to preserve the prestige of the main Top 100, we’ve not ranked all the courses in this second 100. From New South Wales to South Australia, Queensland to Tasmania, let us take you on a voyage down the fairways of some of the world’s greatest golf tracks. The Vintage drops outside the top 50 for the first time but extends a run of consistency dating back to its first inclusion in 2004 – the course has only ever moved within an 11-spot spread. While dropping four spots overall, the course’s Conditioning scores were its best yet. A fifth straight ranking in the low 50s gives this at-times unheralded Melbourne course a unique history. Of the 22 courses to feature in all 17 editions of the Top 100, Spring Valley is one of the few to have bounced back from a lower ranking , even if there’s a slight dip this time. The pride of the Port Stephens region takes a small tumble but remains in the same bracket it has occupied for all eight rankings it has been part of.
