Some 16 designers, who showcased their collections experimented with choreography and music while opting for organic fabric on Day 4 of Amazon India Fashion Week Spring-Summer’16.

Designer 11.11/eleven eleven went the khadi way. Live-music by indie musicians as a percussion ensemble, was the main highlight of the show. They used everyday objects as instruments for creating music. The line was quirky, playful yet very casual. Another highlight was that shoes and hats were made of cardboard. Talking about the collection, the designer-duo said, “The aim was to create an atmosphere using everyday materials in playful ways, pulling sounds out of everyday objects and creating designs out of humble materials infusing them with a unique vision. To accompany the live music we designed shoes and hats out of corrugated cardboard, focusing on going eco-friendly.”

Next came Geisha designs by Paras and Shalini with their collection “Be-Loved”. Their collection drew inspiration from Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita. The designer-duo used a lot of sheer in their collection with clean and precise embroidery. The look was young, presenting a modern take on classic tatting, handcrafted laces, cutworks and appliqué.

Gauri and Nainika showcased their love for the romantic look adorned by the legendary Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn with their collection. With no prints, the soft and breezy collection was inspired by the 1950s era. The line was dominated by soft colours like peach, coral pink and blue with pearls being used in abundance. Nainika said, “We have been thinking of using pearls in our collection for a while, but never got a chance to do so. This time with organza and everything delicate and feminine, we found the opportunity to use pearls.”

Malini Ramani’s collection was themed around the disco era with lots of sequence, flares and her favourite tie and dye saris. To set the mood right the designer used music from the 1980s. “I always focus on presenting a collection that I would personally wear. This time the spotlight was on comfortable clothing. Each of the design was comfortable yet edgy. One could wear them for any occasion from parties to casual evening outing,” said Malini.

The head-turner for the evening was Pero by designer Aneeth Arora. Known for her eye for detailing, the designer organised a pajama party for everyone. The collection included striped pyjamas, khadi and hand-crocheted dresses and jersey tanks. The runway was designed as a venue for a girls’ nightout. The models danced, sang and had fun while walking the ramp. She used hand-woven, stamped and hand-embroidered mulmuls and linens, sheer cottons and kanni (selvedge) in her collection. The day came to an end with designer-duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna’s new collection inspired by today’s wo-men, titled “Many Mazes Many Minds”. The line designed for Maybelline New York was comfortable yet trendy. Athiya Shetty was the showstopper for the evening. Rahul said, “The collection is for young women who have their own mind. It was especially designed for Maybelline keeping New York in mind. Athiya’s energy brought the whole show together. The silhouettes are easy and comfortable. They are for every girl who are multi-tasking — working, going out and partying.” Athiya donned a body hugging blingy outfit with cut-outs and thigh high slit. “I was very nervous and then I saw people cheering and got positive vibes from them. Then I got really excited,” shared Athiya and added, “I’ve lived in New York. So, I was excited when I got to know that I will be walking for them. The outfit is edgy, classy and chic. It’s blingy yet elegant.”
