FIFA 16: My Great Thoughts

Posted by james bonds on October 16th, 2015

Great thoughts and I mostly agree with you. The one con that I have to add is jersey pulling. We all know you can pull an opponent's jersey by pressing the tackle button from behind, and if you're too aggressive or you pull the player down, it's going to be a foul. Cool - no gripes there.

But alternatively, you can just run into the person from behind or you can smash the contain button from behind, and the game mechanics do this weird thing where the player with the ball feels like he's glued to the defender. Then when you shoot, you'll miss the ball or get pull down, but because the defender isn't pressing the tackle button, no foul is given.
It feels like it was patched in after the big patch of FIFA 15 and it has become one of my most despised features of the game. It allows defenders to get away with murder in the box, and it's so frustrating.

Definitely agree with offensive AI being dumb, especially teammates not making the runs when you press the shoulder button to make them run, or AI not running towards a pass that it can clearly see is going to be intercepted by the running defender with enough Fifa 16 coins. I do enjoy playing it but I hate conceding goals where my opponents just zig zags like Messi on steroids past my whole team, despite my attempt to run with the attacker, jockey and defend with CDMs. Penalties and fouls are atrocious.

Goalie's still have the stupid glitch where they do not run towards a deflected ball to prevent a corner kick. The stupid offside glitch has not been fixed at all - the one where if I intercept the ball and am on the counter attack the ref calls an offside anyway. And the new glitch this year is the horrendous advantage calls where if I get fouled, the ball goes loose and my player can get there for 1-on-1 with goalie is called back for a free kick. The game teases you with he advantage icon for a split second and then takes it back regardless of whether you do or do not have advantage.

You also have to consider that the top 3 divisions are the better players, so it make sense naturally, that they know how to do the zig zag. But the vast majority of the player base is in D10-3/4 and a lot of them struggle with it as was my experience working my way through the divisions. So yes it is harder, and yes the better players will figure it out, just like they figure out most harder things in the game in general, but for the majority of players it is significantly harder than RT move stick left/right which is what matters most.
