Posted by Rayanne on May 27th, 2021

Summer is quickly approaching, and your children will be with you at all times for three months. Many children complain of boredom throughout the summer, despite there being so much that is available to do. You can help to entertain your child this summer, however, by following the six ideas that are in the information below.

1. Play in the Water

Even if you do not have an inground pool, you can still have an outside water party with your kids this summer. Purchase an inflatable pool or even a waterslide and some water balloons, and buy some new bathing suits, allowing your children to get outside, get wet, and cool down. Make sure that your children wear sunscreen, however,r so that they are not complaining of their sunburn soon after the water party. If you want to, you can even invite over people from the neighborhood or some of your children's friends from school.

2. Make Some Crafts

Even if you do not have a specific activity in mind, you can allow your children to let their creativity flow by doing arts and crafts. Get out all of the art supplies in your home, including the paint, markers, and paper, for instance, and let your children make whatever their heart desires. If you want to make something specific, look for a nature-themed craft so that you can spend time in the nice weather too. You can even make a birdhouse so that you can teach your children about the small animals all summer.

3. Cook Together

Cooking together is a fun activity for any child no matter the age that they may be. You may have to make adjustments depending on your child's age, but even a young child can help you with stirring the ingredients. This will also be a learning activity for your children as they will learn to measure with the ingredients and will practice their reading skills by following the recipe. They will also find pride in themselves by helping you to cook a dinner that is delicious, especially if you do this at least one night a week.

4. Read Together

You do not want your children to lose their reading skills over the summer. Try to make times when you can read together with your children, and allow them to really feel as if they are part of the story. You and your child can even dress up as characters from the book, with you utilizing a more detailed costume that may even contain white contacts, and your child picking out and designing their own costume. Your local library may also host reading events in which your children can hear a story and dress up too.

5. Watch a Movie Under the Stars

There is nothing more fun than having an outdoor movie night with your family. Set up a sheet against the shed or a side of your house that is flat, and invest in a projector that you can show a movie through. Put down some comfortable blankets and pillows, or set out the lawn chairs that your children can relax on. You can even have a picnic by bringing out your favorite snacks and drinks that everyone can share and enjoy with one another.

6. Play Games Together

Finally, to keep your kids entertained this summer, have family game nights, and for some of them, you can let your children pick out the games. These family game nights can include indoor games such as classic board games like Monopoly or Clue when it is bad weather outside. You can also have lawn games together in your backyard this summer, including games like cornhole and ladder golf to name a couple. You can then build a bonfire together in which you can finish off your night by roasting some marshmallows for s'mores together.

Final Thoughts

This summer can be the best one yet for you and your children if you all enjoy fun things together. Start with the ideas that are in the list above, and do not be afraid to branch out and try your own ideas too. You will be surprised at the many ways you can entertain your children for free or at a very low cost.
