Researchers from Cornell University dove into the topic to determine whether obesity had an impact on the formation of the disease. In the end, researchers say they did find a link between obesity and an increased risk. An estimated 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the United States in 2015, according to the American Cancer Society. About 40,000 women die each year from the disease. Risk factors include gender, aging, genetics and dense breast tissue, among others.
