Your friends have decided to gang up at your place tonight for some fun moments. To make your party time more entertaining, try something different. Instead of serving the usual drinks that your friends have, why not opt for cocktails? It is real fun to mix different flavors and drinks at home and try out the concoctions. If you are not too adventurous, stick to the popular ones that people swear by. Cocktails basically are liquor-based drinks made by mixing spirits, water and sugar and bitters. To add twists various other ingredients are added and the drink is served in visually appealing ways. While Mojito is one popular cocktail, vodka-based White Russian is another cocktail that has remained in rage all the time across the globe.

Cocktails have been ruling the charts since 1860s, and today there is an entire industry researching relentlessly on the subject. Mojito owes its origin to the land of Cuba, precisely Havana. It is famously said that Mojito is best enjoyed the Cuban way - a glass of Mojito, Cuban cigar and some great salsa, and your evening is made. The drink has been named after the African word ‘mojo’ that means spell or charm. And, this drink indeed is charming and casts a spell with its combination of rum, mint leaves and lemon, sugar and club soda. White Russian, on the other hand, has been in the world of cocktails since the middle of the 20th century.

White Russian is a sweet cocktail made up of vodka, coffee liqueur and cream and is served on the rocks. It has been named so not because it originated from Russia, but because vodka is the main ingredient in the cocktail. It has been the signature drink of the main lead of ‘The Big Lebowski’, the cult classic and has remained high on the popularity chart ever since. You can try variations in ingredients like Baileys Irish cream or skimmed milk. Mojito too has different versions and is indeed a refreshing drink.

To reduce the sweetness, you can also add some bitters in your cocktail or use sugar syrup instead of sugar. Preparing Mojito is not too difficult. Add lime juice to sugar and mint, make sure the mint leaves are lightly crushed to release the flavor. Add rum to the mixture and stir gently to mix all the ingredients. Adding soda water and some fresh ice completes the cocktail. Use garnishes like lemon wedges and you are ready to savor the drink. If White Russian is your preference, quickly get some good quality vodka and coffee liqueur.

You only have to add vodka and liqueur like Kahlua to a traditional old glass that is already filled with ice. The next step is to add a generous amount of cream and stir well. And, you get freshly prepared White Russian. Instead of Kahlua you can also try Tia Maria. The beauty of these cocktails like Mojito is that they are very easy to make and require only some basic ingredients. If you require a little handholding, there is online tips and guidance provided by famous mixologists. Search for such sites that provide additional cue on garnishing and cocktail etiquette.

Preparing cocktails is fun. Make the popular Mojito or the classic White Russian at home and enjoy with your near ones.
