Help Those Working in the Poorest Areas in Kenya With Such Limited Resources Leadership in the area of ministering to the poor has never been more needed than in these present times. Having just returned from some of the poorest areas of Kisumu and Bungoma and Nairobi in Kenya it is time to speak out on these issues and challenge the politicians who appear to be simply playing games with finance and giving aid and people's lives. How would you like to walk two miles each way each day to carry water for your family? How would you like to do that when there are some seventeen in your household? How would you like to be told when you came home from school that you had to go and collect the supply of water rather do the homework and study which you know you should be doing? It shocks me to see how little has been done in some of these poor areas and to see Government Ministers running around in expensive cars and abusing their privileged positions. Life is tough, really tough, for so many people in nations like Kenya, and real practical help could alleviate much suffering within a comparatively short time. I was surprised to see that Golf Course adjacent to the Kibera slum in west Nairobi! It has been a privilege to meet with men who are doing whatever they can to provide water for their locality. Others are running clinics and help groups to serve those who are sorely addicted to drugs and alcohol and they are working in the poorest of the slums with such limited resources. This will demand a different type of leadership. A different quality of leadership is needed where self is sacrificed and where the needs of others take priority. Each time I return to these slum districts of Nairobi and Kisumu I am challenged to do more and to encourage others to seek to do more. But, if we could get the political leaders to take this seriously and pragmatically instead of calling yet another Conference or Summit to talk about it then something practical might be the consequence. In all of these matters what is so necessary is determined leadership, where the leaders have made up their minds that they are going to serve the people and improve their environment. Having seen how a massive improvement can be made with very few resources, consider how much could be done if most of the aid given were to be used in the front line where it is most needed and not to furnish offices and to provide luxury cars for those who do not need it. The sin is in the quality of the leadership. Tunisie Travail Leaders must be reminded that one day they will be accountable, not to the electorate, but to Almighty God, and answer for the way they have made decisions and handled riches which were not theirs in the first place. It is time for the Church of Jesus Christ to speak out prophetically and remind those in positions of authority of this reality
