A treatment plan will be devised based on your skin type and your physical health. Sometimes, you may have to take up more than on treatment technique in order to get good results. There are two types of acne scars – raised and depressed. The acne scar removal treatment will depend on the scar type.

The various types of acne scar removal methods used for raised scars are surgery, laser therapy, injections, and Cryosurgery. Skin creams, gels and silicone will also be used in the treatment process. Resurfacing is a technique used for the removal of depressed scars. The methods used in this technique are chemical peeling, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion and laser therapy. The other techniques include acne scar surgery, Electrodesiccation, use of fillers, collagen-induced therapy and skin tightening.

Though surgery may sound a little scary, it is relatively safe and is used only for very large and noticeable scars. The dermatologist will surgically break the scar tissue or lift it closer to the surface to reduce its size. Generally local anesthesia is used during the surgery. The patient will feel the numbness, but will know what’s happening.

Resurfacing technique is used for nearly flat scars while dermabrasion is used for scars that originate in the top or middle layer of the skin. Depressed scars can be treated using fillers like collagen, fat or any other substance. The latest technique in acne scar removal treatment is skin tightening. Safe for use on all skin types, this treatment method involves the use of radiofrequency to remove the scars. However, you will have to visit the skin clinic at frequent intervals to complete the treatment.
