Simple Outdoor Bench [with Free Plans]

Hey guys, i'm jamison with rogue engineer and today we're going to be building this simple outdoor bench. Let' best 10 inch car subwoofer get started so for this project we're using cedar. Now i've got two by six and two by fours and cedar. However, pressure treated lumber would work just fine for an outdoor bench or you could use untreated lumber, just kiln dried stuff and then apply some kind of protective coating to it. So i'm gon na go ahead and cut everything down to length. Now all the the dimensions in the cut list - and everything is on my website and i'll link to that above [ - Music, ], okay, so this is the the leg of the bench. However, in order to add some interest to it, what i'm going to do is i'm going to cut a taper, so i'm going to start at the inside corner and measure up two inch or 10 inches and then measure over four inches and then connect the two With a straight edge, [ Music ], with the legs cut, now we can move on to assembling the structure that is going to support the seat. Now. This essentially is made up of cedar two by fours and, however, cedar is a softer wood. So we wan na make sure that we pre-drill these before we connect everything or join everything together now to join these together. We'Re gon na be using two and a half inch wood screws. These are exterior grades, since this is an outdoor bench. However, if you wanted to hide those screws, you could go with something like a pocket hole or many other types of joinery, but this is what we're going with for this project: [, Music, ], all right! So now we're gon na start by installing the legs or the sides of the bench which are the legs, so the shorter 2x4 is more just for looks than anything. However, we're going to have two legs and a and a 2x4 on each side. So it's going to look something like this: we're gon na keep a quarter inch gap in between those and then we're gon na secure those each one with two screws. Uh we'll do the legs with three screws on each one um from the inside, so that we don't see them over here. [, Music ], all right, so the base is done, and now all we have to do is attach the top three boards. Now i'm going to lay those underneath of the base set the base on top of them, get them exactly where i want, and then i'm going to drive screws through on an angle through the base structure into the top boards. That way, the screw heads don't show from the top all right, so it probably would have been a little wiser to do at least sand over the legs before i assembled it, however, this is what we got now, so i'm going to go ahead and use my Orbital, sander and just kind of round over the sharper edges on the legs, from the cuts, as well as the ends of the bench [ Music ]. So i hope you guys enjoyed this video. The thing i love about this channel is the fact that we can go from something as complex as building an outdoor kitchen to building a simple cedar bench. The next day now i went very simple with this design and the way that i put it together. However, you could you know, amp it up a little bit with a couple of pocket holes to hide these exterior screws in the base, and you know, use some different types of joinery just to spice it up a little bit. However, i wanted to show the very simplest form of this project, so it's not intimidating for newcomers, but wait before you go make sure you check out that video up there youtube thinks you'll like it, and i do too, if you haven't, subscribed yet make sure you Hit that button right there and if you want the full plans for this, make sure you hit that button right there and that's going to take you on over to the website until next time be safe and happy building [ Music ], you
