Treprostinil drugs, sold under the brand names Remodulin for infusion, Orenitram for oral, and Tyvaso for inhalation, is a vasodilator that is used for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. This medication is usually taken in tablet form, which may be taken once or twice daily. Patients must be advised, however, that this type of treatment is associated with some serious side effects, such as severe headaches, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, tremors and changes in blood pressure. There are also some contraindications, such as heart and blood vessel diseases. Patients should speak with their doctor before starting a course of Treprostinil drugs or any other oral antimalarials.

Formulation of Treprostinil drugs was first studied in patients who were receiving coronary artery surgery. It was found to be efficacious in reducing the inflow of blood from the femoral vein and the thymus, where white blood cells protect against infection. In addition, this agent has been found to be highly effective in preventing blood clots from forming in the deep femoral vein system, the largest vessel in the body. This anticoagulant property of Treprostinil drugs has been found very useful in the treatment of embolism, the clotting of blood in the lung. Its ability to prevent platelets from sticking in the vena cava - the large vessels that drain the heart - has also been found very beneficial in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. While the benefits of oral inhalation of Treprostinil drugs have not yet been proven in controlled clinical studies, it has already been shown to have significant therapeutic value in patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis and in patients with milder forms of the disease.
