New England Blackbutt is sourced from the coastal ranges and tablelands of northern NSW and southern Queensland. The material is very similar in appearance spotted gum vs blackbutt and properties to Blackbutt (E. pilularis). The colour ranges from pale browns to straw blondes, with gum veins being a common feature. This variance in tone means Spotted Gum flooring can work with lighter or darker interior décor. My problem is, i love the look of spotted gum and LOVE the greens in it but i worry that it might be a bit busy for the area. The other option is Blackbutt which doesnt have as much variation in colour. since my original question we think we will go with American Oak. I really like the look of spotted gum, in every photo i have seen it looks great and the colours are beautiful. 7x5 is a pretty big room, I don't think spotted gum would be too busy for it personally. This oil creates a visible layer of natural oil and a high gloss appearance. Karri heartwood is a beautiful hue of reddish-brown, being slightly lighter in colour then jarrah. Heartwood is Red with the sapwood lighter and has very similar properties and texture to Ironbark. Grey Gum is resistant to termites and is a class 1 durability hardwood.
