PC: Flatout ReviewPosted by Branin on August 11th, 2010 Flatout, a Great Game that Has Created a Lasting Effect, If you have ever taken an interest in racing/driving games for the PC you may be interested in the Title 'Flatout' by Empire Interactive and BugBear, this game HAS been around for quite some time now but for quite a few reasons I feel this game never quite gained the respect I think is due. In this article I will explain my reason's for calling Flatout one of the best racing games of all time, for the PC, or any console. Flatout is a racing game focused on destruction and mayhem, if you crash your buddy's car into a solid brick wall you get a nitrous boost, and guess what, if he just so happens to fly out of his window, then you earn more nitrous, which in turn helps you out as long as you can manage to keep from crashing yourself, however, that can prove to be a challenge at times. There are just over 40 tracks and variations for you to play on and multiple side 'races' that involve doing certain stunt's and derby's, the stunt's can be really fun, however, only when in multiplayer. In all honesty, I couldn't do the game enough honor by simply talking about it, it's really something you'll have to try on your own, it's the experience of the game that really hooks you! My absolute favorite feature in Flatout, is the none other than epic LAN Multiplayer capabilities. For the past number of years, Flatout has been the epicenter of 'Gamer Night' here at my house, from time to time we have switched to various other Titles such as Call of Duty, Halo, or Need for Speed, but we always come running right back to flatout. In my honest opinion, I think what keeps us coming back is how familiar we have grown to the game, the handling of the cars and the overall physics of the game are what we have grown to love. Multiplayer events allow you to select up to 12 tracks and can handle anywhere from 2-8 players, normally you need at least three good players in order for it to be fun, and the more players you add the better the game gets. There are plenty of car's however the 'Sunray' appears to be the fastest and best handling car so we will normally just go with that one, occasionally someone will pick the 'flatmobile' and will quickly realize their mistakes. All in all Flatout is a great game for all players of all types, boasting some of the most captivating multiplayer options I have ever experienced personally, and becoming a lasting game that we can all enjoy for years! I thank you for your interest and suggest that you try this game! Like it? Share it!More by this author |
